Creature of the month: Valonia ventricosa

Valonia Ventricosa, also known as bubble algae is a species of algae belonging to the chlorophyta phylum that is commonly found in most oceans around the world, it has also been found growing in mangrove forests, tidal areas, and tropical and subtropical regions, and is usually spherical or ovoid in shape, its color ranges from dark green to grass green, and can look teal, silver, or even blackish when submerged in water, its known as one of the largest, if not THE largest single celled organism alive.

This is a picture of valoria ventricosa, it is shown sitting quietly on a bed of sand, it is a species of algae belonging to the chlorophyta phylum, and its colors range from dark green to grass green, dark green feels cold and waxy, meanwhile, grass green feels soft and warm.

It can grow up to 4-5cm in diameter and is usually found leading a life of loneliness and seclusion, but can sometimes be found living together with other bubble algae in groups, it does not need much light to grow and can survive in low light environments, it is also known for being structurally similar to grapes due to the fact that they both have cell walls made up of cellulose.

Fun Fact:

Valonia ventricosa helped scientists gain more insight into the inner workings of cellulose, and it also helped in the production of cellulose-based products

I personally like this creature because it shows us how far some creatures can go in terms of size, valonia ventricosa is also very cute, and aesthetically pleasing, and it was a game-changer and helped scientists understand cellulose better, and it also helped in the production of cellulose-based products, although it is very invasive and dangerous, you cant deny that valonia ventricosa has helped us reexamine and change our views on how big a single celled organism could get
