Hey guys, ralf here, and a few days ago, i was looking for a cheap lip oil that was clear and didn’t have too much pigment, and low and behold, i found a melon lip oil that is being sold by squad cosmetics on shopee for 84 philippine pesos, and i was interested in buying it, so i did, and before i say my thoughts out loud, we will first analyze the company, its origins, and the ingredients of the melon lip oil.
Squad cosmetics origins started in 2014 when Rosette Yu became Cosmetix Unlimited Inc. 's manager. Cosmetix Unlimited Inc. is located at 183 Judge Juan Luna St., Quezon City, Metro Manila, Philippines 1105 and its main goal is to “Reinvent and innovate the beauty industry”.
Its LinkedIn states that it is a “Manufacturer, Importer, Exporter, Distributor, Retailer of Cosmetics Products “,
which does seem to be true, according to Project Vanity, a Filipino beauty blog,
they “formulate products in LA and manufacture them in china”, do note that they also formulate and manufacture cosmetics locally.
If you look at the melon lip oil’s packaging, it states that it was formulated and distributed by
Cosmetix Unlimited Inc., and if you look at its shopee page,
you can see that it states the country of origin as “Philippines” and It ships from Santa Maria, Bulacan.
It has a few brands under its wing, which includes Detail Cosmetics, Beauty Hive, Her Beauty, and Squad cosmetics.
Squad cosmetics was launched in the early 2020’s and caters mainly to Gen-Z, which is why its Cruelty free, as per

It also caters to the gen z market by being affordable, with a lot of its products sold under the
600+ php price tag in shopee philippines.
Its melon lip oil is one of its all-time favorites, with over 10k sales, It contains:
A. V. Rawlings and K. J. Lombard’s "A review on the extensive skin benefits of mineral oil" says that it is a complex mixture of highly refined hydrocarbons, which are paraffinics (branched-chain alkalines) and naphthenics (alkanes containing one or more cyclic structures).
It is a cold-pressed oil extracted from the seeds of the Cucumis. melo L. (Melon) fruit. It is rich in essential fatty acids and bioactive compounds and its potential use as a natural antioxidant in foods and pharmaceuticals is being investigated.
It is used as an emollient and moisturizer that repairs the suppleness of skin and prevents water loss.
It is the byproduct of the hydrogenation of styrene/isopropyl copolymer and it is used to control viscosity in formulas and to help in film-forming.
It’s extracted from the seeds of the desert shrub, Simmondsia chinensis, and has been used for a long time to treat various ailments.
In the cosmetics industry, it is used due to the fact that it is a humectant, which means it pulls water into the skin, and due to its non-comedogenicness.
It is an oil that is extracted from the sunflower’s seeds, it is non-comedogenic and it is known to have antioxidants.
It is a synthetic form of vitamin e which can protect your body from free radicals
It is an emollient esther with a rich and creamy feel that softens the skin
It stimulates skin healing and collagen production. It also helps in improving the overall look and appearance of the skin.
Just like Palmitoyl Tripeptide-1, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 boosts collagen production and it boosts the skin's elasticity and anti-aging properties.
It is an omega-9 fatty acid that adds moisture to the skin, it also helps in skin barrier function.

So now that we’ve gone over the ingredients, how does it actually look and feel?
After using it for a few days, I can definitely see why the Squad cosmetics melon lip oil is a bestseller, it gives your lips a good shine, and it feels juicy, moisturizing, and cushy.
Though I do have to say, I think I prefer a less furry doe foot applicator.
Its smell was reminiscent of my childhood, whenever me and my mom bought ice scramble (think slurpees but with milk, strawberry/chocolate syrup, and marshmallows & sprinkles). it was so sweet and relaxing.
Overall, it’s a 8/10. it might actually be one of my best purchases yet. It’s so affordable and yet it performs so well, I love playing with it and putting it on!
